METALL event round-up: Unveiling the exponential potential of AI

On 27th February, we had the pleasure of hosting an insightful session on “Unveiling the Exponential Potential of AI” at Cottesmore Hotel Golf & Country Club. The event brought together industry professionals from the manufacturing and engineering sectors to explore the real-world applications of AI and its transformative impact.

A deep dive into AI’s potential

Our speaker, Vincent Murphy, Founder of Brainstorm, delivered a compelling presentation on the rapid evolution of AI. He shared how businesses can leverage AI to optimise processes, enhance productivity, and drive innovation in an era of technological acceleration. More than just theoretical discussions, the session delved into practical, tangible applications, an approach that particularly resonated with an audience that values substance over hype.

The event also featured a live AI demonstration, offering attendees a first-hand look at how AI is shaping industries today. Seeing the technology in action sparked engaging discussions, with many taking notes and asking thought-provoking questions.

A dynamic discussion

Following the presentation, Tony Summers, Partner at Carpenter Box, facilitated a Q&A session, allowing attendees to dig deeper into the subject matter. Engineers, innovators, and business leaders posed insightful questions, reinforcing the notion that AI is not just an emerging trend but a fundamental shift in how industries operate.

Vincent shared his perspective on presenting to the METALL audience:

“Engineers are my favourite kind of tough crowd. Creatives often want a vivid sketch of AI’s promised land, or its potential dystopia. Whilst the mind of an engineer is far more interested in the actual bridge to get there: What’s the design? Where’s the truss? Will it hold? And of course exactly how much is this going to cost?

Mistakes might be said to spark genius in some fields, but for those who work with precision, evidence is everything. So for such an audience I strive to remain focused in knowing that if you come pitching big ideas, you’d better bring receipts.

Thanks again to METALL for the opportunity, and to everyone who engaged with the ideas of AI as the fourth hyperludic accelerant. I look forward to speaking with many new connections about the exponentiality of everything.”

Although he wasn’t able to show his slides on the day, Vincent has kindly shared them with us to pass along; you can view his presentation here. Vincent has also generously offered a personalised run through of the slides with anyone interested in learning more – if this would be useful, feel free to reach out to him directly at vincent@vincentmurphy.co.uk.
