METALL Masterclass: Skills

When: 8.00am-11am, Thursday 11th July

Where: Worthing College, 1 Sanditon Way, Worthing, BN14 9FD

Subject: In METALL #10 we looked at the local and national skills landscape in engineering, technology and manufacturing, and thought about some practical steps for a local solution. Some very clear challenges and opportunities presented themselves through the data and through discussion:

  1. The lack of female entrants into STEM learning and the subsequent workforce is a national and local crisis.
  2. The language between education and business is often not shared, with assumptions made from both sides.
  3. We need a highly skilled all-age workforce, attracting and up-skilling the best staff; regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, background or if they need to work flexibly.

This Skills Masterclass will deepen and extend the previous conversation, honing in on a bold mission for West Sussex with some tangible and practical actions for participating businesses and educators to take forward – both within each organisation and collaboratively. This Masterclass is part of a series from METALL, delivered in partnership with Coastal West Sussex Partnership, Sussex Learning Network and always possible.
