Closing the skills gap in Manufacturing and Engineering
This event has now passed – please check back for the next METALL event.
When: 8am-11am, Tuesday 21st April
Where: Sussex and Surrey Institute of Technology, Crawley College, College Road, Crawley, RH10 1NR
Have you got:
- Staff that are irreplaceable in the current market?
- Your most capable staff approaching retirement?
- Your new recruits arriving without the technical and practical skills your business needs?
- Issues retaining and developing your best people?
We are delighted to be joined by Jeff Hughes of Welland Medical and Zoe Robson of Ceres Power. They will share how these issues affected their businesses, and how they addressed them with support from Dean Wynter, Vice Principal at Crawley College and the Sussex and Surrey Institute of Technology (“IoT”).
Topics covered:
- How Welland Medical and Ceres Power identified priority areas within their businesses and the steps taken to address them.
- Their real-world experience of apprenticeships and workforce development, including the challenges faced and how these are being addressed through training and collaboration with the IoT.
- Guidance on how businesses can engage with the IoT, including funding opportunities and tailored training options rather than generic courses.
- Insight into T Levels, HNC and HND qualifications and their role in upskilling new and existing staff, supporting career progression.
There will also be time for an open Q&A, providing the opportunity to ask questions directly to the speakers.
Following the discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to tour the state-of-the-art IOT facility on the Crawley College campus which is dedicated to delivering the higher-level technical skills needed by employers across the region, and to engage with some of their students to understand how their experience at the IOT is developing their skills and ambitions. The guided tour will last approximately 20–30 minutes.
